The Really Hungry Librarian

I was inspired to create this rhyme and flannel set after reading Carlo and the Really Nice Librarian by Jessica Spanyol. I have included two versions below: one that can be use as a follow-up to the book and one that can be used independently if you do not plan on incorporating the book into your storytime.

Flannel Shapes:

Mrs. Chinka Crocodile Librarian Flannel Board Shape

1. Books (3-5 pieces, depending on which number you want to start with.)

2. Librarian: A crocodile (alternate version: any animal or person.)

3. Friend: A giraffe (alternate version: any animal or person.)

Version 1: Carlo and the Really Hungry Librarian

Five fun books sitting upright,

Mrs. Chinka says,

"I'll have a little bite!"

Munch, munch, munch!

(Remove a book and repeat for four, three, and two.)

One fun book sitting upright,

Mrs. Chinka says,

"Hey something isn't right!"

Hmm, hmm, hmm.

Knock, knock, knock,

Carlo's at the door,

With four fun books he brought from the store.

Yum, yum, yum! Yay!

(Stick each of the four books back up as you say each word in the last line.)

Version 2: The Hungry Librarian (or Crocodile)

Five fun books sitting upright,

(Choose 1: The librarian says, Mrs. Croc says, The crocodile says,)

"I'll have a little bite!"

Munch, munch, munch!

(Repeat for four, three, and two.)

One fun book sitting upright,

(Choose 1: The librarian says, Mrs. Croc says, The crocodile says,)

"Hey something isn't right!"

Hmm, hmm, hmm.

(Optional: End here or continue.)

Knock, knock, knock,

Someone's at the door,

With four fun books they brought from the store.

Yum, yum, yum! Yay!

(Stick each of the four books back up as you say each word in the last line.)
